Printing and packaging exhibitions are engines of industry development. The world's top five exhibitions, such as drupa and interpack in Germany, Sino-Pack and All in Print in China, and Tokyo Pack in Japan, have all faced pressure in recent years from declining visitors and exhibitors, rising costs, increased transparency of technical information, and sustainability regulations. This necessitates a rethinking of their positioning, making transformation an inevitable path for the future.
The challenges and transformation direction of international exhibitions have shifted from showcasing equipment to defining industry standards. They are becoming platforms for exchanging industry ideas through seminars. Attracting high-level decision-makers is more important than attracting the general visitors. The focus is shifting from single exhibitions to cross-industry integration, such as providing complete supply chain solutions. Traditional exhibitions are moving towards hybrid models, with online live streaming and virtual exhibition halls becoming the norm.
TIGAX, with its 40-year history, is Taiwan's largest printing machinery exhibition. Thirty years ago, it was the second largest in Asia, but now it has become a local exhibition, rarely attracting overseas visitors and buyers. Furthermore, with heavy equipment manufacturers withdrawing, Taiwanese printing and packaging machinery manufacturers face competition from China, and the number of exhibitors has been declining over the years. How TIGAX can transform is a crucial issue for its future consideration.
On the other hand, TAIPEI PACK, which began in 1998, has undergone several transformations, evolving from a packaging equipment and materials exhibition into a comprehensive event encompassing five major professional exhibitions: TAIPEI PACK, FOOD TAIPEI, FOODTECH TAIPEI, BIO/PHARMATECH TAIWAN, and TAIWAN HORECA. The exhibition's scale has skyrocketed, now ten times the size of TIGAX. In 2026, TAPEI PACK attracted 1,918 exhibitors across 5,317 booths and nearly 4,500 international professional buyers from over 100 countries.
How to connect the industry supply chain through the exhibition, how to highlight the pressures of sustainability regulations (PPWR, CBAM, ESG, etc.) to innovate materials and new processes, and how to understand digital transformation and smart manufacturing to meet market demands—these are all directions worth considering for the transformation of the exhibitions. Cross-industry technological integration, combining packaging industry equipment and technology, design and processes, to expand the exhibition's scale are all directions worth considering.
